“Danni Rosner blends a chilled vibe with emotional intensity—her music is one part soul, one part rock and all parts heart.”
Zack Daggy: When did you first start singing?
Danni Rosner: Ever since I can remember–my father used to play jazz piano standards, The Beatles, the Allman Brothers and I’d always be sitting next to him making up my own melody lines and lyrics.
ZD: Who are your main influences?
DR: Adele, Missy Higgins, Tori Amos, Regina Spektor, David Gray, Gavin DeGraw.
ZD: What was the first song that you wrote?
DR: I was three. I wrote a song about the birds, trees and the flowers, and something about rainbows ha ha. My mother has it on film. It’s hilarious!
ZD: What is your song writing process?
DR: Typically it starts with a melody, and then I’ll write accompaniment on piano, and then I’ll sit there and practice it and words will come about–usually about how I’m feeling or what’s going on at the moment. It’s wherever the inspiration strikes me!
ZD: Where is the strangest place that you’ve found inspiration?
DR: Hmmm… Strange? Facebook. About two years ago I got a message in my inbox from a guy I had just gone on a date with telling me that it just wasn’t going to work out- so I immediately started to write a song about why I was a catch and he was missing out (called Romantic Acrobat on this album ha ha!)
ZD: What is your favorite song to perform and why?
DR: I love playing Kaleidoscope World live–especially with the full band. There’s this undeniable rhythm that makes you move and feel the music, and when we get to the bridge section it just builds and builds until it bursts right into the chorus and people are singing along even though they don’t know the words. It’s awesome.
ZD: Where have you played recently and where are you playing next?
DR: I recently played back-to-back gigs–one in LA on Nov. 8 at Molly Malones w/ the full band and the next night on Nov. 9 in Washington, DC at Rock and Roll Hotel opening for Lenka and Colin Smith. My next gig is an all ages show @ IOTA in Arlington, VA on Sat. Dec 5th | 5PM. Details on the website at www.dannirosner.com
ZD: What has been the greatest moment thus far in your music career?
DR: There is no one single ‘great’ moment, it’s all great. I’m just happy to be doing what I love :)
ZD: What has been the worst moment thus far in your music career?
DR: The worst part is waiting!
ZD: Your album is called Piano Actress. Where does that title come from?
DR: Well I’m both a musician and an actress- I host a music video tv show called Strictly Global on a National Channel for MHz Worldview, and I play the piano. Plus, I’m always ‘acting’ on stage and engaging with my audience, that is, while I play the piano. :)
